Exercise 7: Locating Slow Pages

Did you know that approximately 70% of Internet users connect at speeds of 28.8 Kbs or less. Are you losing visitors because of slow download times? In this exercise we'll show you how to use Linkbot to identify bloated pages that could use slimming.

To locate the slow pages on your site:

  1. Run a complete analysis on the site
  2. Select the Slow Pages option in the left frame
  3. Switch the right frame to the Properties Tab

Note: The download size is the sum of the HTML text and the images on a page. It is not just the size of the actual HTML file itself.

To locate the slow pages in the Site Report:

  1. Run a complete analysis on the site
  2. Publish a site report and choose What's Slow from the menu.


To customize the What's Slow list:

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Select the "Reporting" tab
  3. Enter a new download size. The default value is 50KB.

It's advisable to customize your Web site's download times for users of 28.8 kbs modems. If your site is for internal company use only you may wish to increase this value.
